The Coral Frontier

Southern Thailand – Tarutao – Langkawi

A serene southern route of coral gardens, clear lagoons, and family-friendly exploration in Thailand’s most pristine waters.

Exploring Thailand’s Deep South and the Andaman’s Last Reefs

Far from the well-trodden coasts of Phuket and Krabi lies a seascape of coral atolls, ancient islands, and pristine marine parks stretching toward Malaysia. The Coral Frontier traces this southern arc — a 12-day voyage through seldom-visited reefs, national parks, and island cultures that remain deeply tied to the sea. This is a journey for those who seek the wild edges of the Andaman. From Tarutao’s jungle ridges to the submerged coral shelves of the Butang Islands, every day reveals new underwater colour, shifting light, and tropical stillness. The rhythm is unhurried, the focus elemental — sailing, diving, discovery, and the quiet pleasure of living by the tide.
Day 1 – Langkawi Embarkation

Board at Royal Langkawi Yacht Club. After introductions and customs clearance, cruise north into the calm, emerald waters surrounding Pulau Payar Marine Park. Evening at anchor with a welcome dinner beneath the peaks of Langkawi’s limestone karsts.

Day 2 – Pulau Payar Marine Park

Begin your exploration with a morning snorkel over coral bommies teeming with butterflyfish and parrotfish. Dive deeper with your onboard biologist for an introduction to coral restoration and reef health monitoring. Afternoon sail toward Tarutao Island.

Day 3 – Tarutao Island

Clear into Thai waters and enter Tarutao National Marine Park, a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Hike ashore to a cascading jungle stream, where dusky langurs and hornbills are often spotted. Return for an alfresco dinner on the aft deck as fireflies light the mangroves.

Day 4 – Tarutao South & Adang Passage

Follow Tarutao’s rugged southern coastline before crossing open water to the Adang group. Along the way, the crew may trail lines for wahoo or Spanish mackerel. Anchor off Koh Adang for an afternoon swim and sunset cocktails as the horizon glows vermilion.

Day 5 – Koh Adang Reef Systems

Dive with your marine guide among vast table corals and seafans at Adang’s western wall — one of the healthiest reef systems in Thai waters. After lunch, kayak through shallow lagoons alive with juvenile reef fish. Evening beach dinner arranged on a hidden sandbar.

Day 6 – Koh Lipe

Morning tender to Koh Lipe, where fishermen’s families and diving communities coexist in a tapestry of cultures. Visit a local sea gypsy village and learn about traditional net-weaving. Afternoon at leisure — snorkelling, massage, or shopping for hand-woven sarongs in the island’s walking street.

Day 7 – Butang Archipelago

A day under sail through the scattered Butang islands. Stop at Koh Butang for reef dives and drone photography. Lunch is served on the flybridge before anchoring off a deserted cay for sunset yoga or paddleboarding.

Day 8 – Koh Bulon Le

Sail east to Koh Bulon, a small island of powder-white beaches and swaying casuarina trees. Meet local artisans crafting natural soaps from seaweed and coconut oil. In the evening, enjoy a tasting dinner inspired by Southern Thai flavours — turmeric, lemongrass, and smoked chili.

Day 9 – Koh Phetra National Park

Enter a wilder seascape of uninhabited limestone isles. Explore sea caves accessible only at low tide, then climb to a cliff lookout for panoramic views across the archipelago. Anchor in a secluded bay where phosphorescence dances in the wake after dark.

Day 10 – Koh Libong & Dugong Sanctuary

An early sail to Koh Libong, home to Thailand’s last population of dugongs. Join a conservation patrol to observe these gentle grazers from a respectful distance. Afternoon sail north to the Trang Islands, passing fishermen in long-tail boats returning with the day’s catch.

Day 11 – Koh Kradan & Koh Muk

Visit the crystalline beaches of Koh Kradan for a final day of relaxed exploration. Dive or snorkel the shallow reef, then tender to Koh Muk’s famed Emerald Cave — an inner lagoon revealed through a sea tunnel. Final gala dinner served on deck under a star-filled sky.

Day 12 – Disembarkation at Trang

Sail into Pak Meng Pier near Trang, where transfers await for onward travel to Krabi, Phuket, or the airport. A farewell brunch is served en route — fresh tropical fruit, pastries, and pressed juice as the coastline fades astern.
