The Musandam Fjords

Northern Oman

Dramatic limestone fjords, dolphins, and calm inlets — a sheltered playground between sea and mountain.

A Voyage Through Oman’s Mountains of the Sea

Where the Arabian Peninsula fractures into the Strait of Hormuz, a labyrinth of fjords carves deep into the Musandam Peninsula — sheer limestone walls plunging into sapphire water, and tiny villages clinging to coves unreachable by road. The Musandam Fjords voyage explores this dramatic frontier between sea and mountain, where time moves to the rhythm of wind, tide, and call to prayer. Each day reveals another quiet anchorage: narrow inlets framed by cliffs, dolphins playing off the bow, dhows slipping across glassy bays at dusk. From Khasab’s historic forts to the silent isolation of Telegraph Island, this is a sailing experience of rare tranquility and astonishing natural beauty — Arabia at its most elemental.
Day 1 – Khasab Embarkation

Join your yacht at Khasab Port, gateway to the Musandam Peninsula. After a warm welcome and safety briefing, set sail for Telegraph Island. Anchor in calm blue water surrounded by sheer cliffs. Evening swim and dinner on deck under a sky alive with stars.

Day 2 – Telegraph Island & Sham Fjord

Explore the island’s ruins, once a British telegraph relay outpost linking India to London. Tender deep into Sham Fjord — an eight-mile inlet of stillness and echoing rock. Dolphins often surf the bow wave here. Return for sundowners as the call to prayer drifts across the mountains.

Day 3 – Lima Village

Cruise south along rugged coastlines toward Lima, a fishing village hemmed between sea and mountain. Go ashore to meet local boatbuilders crafting traditional dhows, then snorkel the nearby coral shelf alive with parrotfish. Dinner is a seafood mezze prepared in the galley using local spices.

Day 4 – Khor Najd Lookout & Beach Landing

Anchor beneath Khor Najd’s towering cliffs. A tender run brings guests ashore for a short hike to the panoramic lookout — the Musandam’s most iconic view. Return to a shaded beach setup where the crew serves fresh juices and Arabic coffee.

Day 5 – Kumzar Village

Set a northerly course (≈25 nm) toward the tip of the peninsula. Visit Kumzar, accessible only by sea, where the community speaks its own ancient dialect. Guests may be welcomed for tea and stories of life lived between mountain and tide. Overnight at anchor near the strait’s entrance.

Day 6 – Strait of Hormuz Passage

Sail through the legendary Strait of Hormuz, where Arabia meets Persia. Watch dhows and tankers trace their routes through the narrow corridor. Dolphins often accompany the yacht in these currents. Lunch underway, then anchor in a protected bay for the evening.

Day 7 – Khor Hablain & Hidden Lagoons

Return along the southern coast to explore remote inlets accessible only by tender. Kayak through narrow channels between towering cliffs; swim in luminous blue lagoons fringed by coral shelves. Quiet night at anchor beneath cliffs that glow orange in the last light.

Day 8 – Fjord Exploration Day

Dedicate the day to discovery within Khor Ash Sham — the fjord’s heart. Visit tiny hamlets where fishermen dry shark and sardines on rooftops. Dive or snorkel among soft corals in 15–20m visibility. Evening bonfire dinner on a small beach reached by tender.

Day 9 – Ras Sham & Dhow Encounters

Cruise slowly past Ras Sham headland, meeting local dhow captains who ply these waters as their families have for centuries. Learn knot-tying techniques or join the crew in a sail-handling workshop. Afternoon free to fish, paddleboard, or relax on deck.

Day 10 – Secluded Bay & Mountain Trails

Anchor in a quiet inlet beneath towering limestone cliffs. Your guide leads a short trail to a mountain plateau for panoramic views across the fjord system. Return to the yacht for a private dinner illuminated by lanterns and moonlight.

Day 11 – Return to Khasab

A relaxed final passage back toward Khasab, stopping for a last swim in warm turquoise water. The chef prepares a farewell Omani-inspired tasting menu paired with regional mocktails and date desserts.

Day 12 – Disembarkation at Khasab

Breakfast on deck before farewells with the crew. Transfers arranged to Khasab Airport or via mountain road to Dubai.
